Choose Your Series

Match the Series to Your Medical Device Mechanism

Select your cylinder by how patient or equipment loads act on the piston rod: rigid locking in extension, single-tube or dual-tube locking in compression, cushioned elastic locking, or damped lift support.

Inside the Cylinder

Rock-Solid Patient Support and Power-Free Reliability

In emergency rooms, operating suites, and patient transport corridors, mechanical positioning must work instantly without relying on wall power or battery packs. Inside our NTA, NTB, and NTC rigid locking cylinders, separated nitrogen gas and incompressible hydraulic oil chambers work in tandem: pressing the release pin opens the internal valve for effortless counterweight adjustment, and releasing it traps hydraulic oil to hold the piston rod firmly in place.

Single-Tube vs. Dual-Tube Architecture: Where vertical column space is tight, such as mobile anesthesia carts or bedside overbed tables, our NTC dual-tube body uses two concentric tube passages (26 to 28 mm outer diameter) to maximize gas volume and deliver up to 500 mm of travel with a low spring-rate ratio. For rapid bedside emergencies, the NTA series can also be configured with a quick-opening semi-rigid valve layout.

Make It Yours

Tailored to Your Clinical Subframe and Housing

Medical OEMs require clean aesthetics, tight dimensional tolerances, and intuitive caregiver controls. We custom-build rod diameters from 0.16 to 0.47 in (4 to 12 mm), outer tubes from 12 to 28 mm, and tube lengths from 2.4 to 25.6 in (60 to 650 mm).

How We Work

From Clinical CAD Review to Validated Production

A disciplined three-step engineering workflow to get your hospital bed, cart, or mobility device from concept to repeatable production.

  1. Share Load and Pivot Data

Send your assembly drawing or linkage geometry with patient or equipment load, pivot center distances, and required stroke and extended length.

  2. Test Custom Prototypes

We manufacture sample cylinders tuned to your exact F1 extension force, locking direction, surface color, and cable-release travel for verification testing.

  3. Consistent OEM Supply

Every batch undergoes strict force and locking inspection so each hospital bed, stretcher, or cart leaves your line with identical actuation feel.

Industry Solutions

Beyond healthcare and patient care equipment, we custom-manufacture gas struts and locking springs for five additional OEM sectors.

FAQs

Questions Medical Engineers Ask

Still unsure? Email info@newtonmatic.com

When should medical engineers specify NTC dual-tube springs over NTB single-tube springs?

Both NTB and NTC lock rigidly in compression under downward clinical loads. Specify NTB (50 to 500 N, stroke 20 to 350 mm) for compact exam table headrests and leg sections. Specify NTC (70 to 450 N, stroke 50 to 500 mm) for mobile medical carts and overbed tables where a telescoping column requires a higher stroke-to-cylinder ratio and larger internal gas volume.

Why is the NTA series preferred for hospital bed backrests and CPR release linkages?

Hospital bed backrests and knee-gatch linkages frequently experience outward pulling forces when a patient shifts weight or pulls on the frame. The NTA series locks rigidly in the extension direction up to 1,250 N (281 lbf) and is available in a quick-opening semi-rigid internal valve configuration for rapid manual backrest lowering.

Can your locking gas springs operate without power during patient transport or outages?

Yes. Newton mechanical gas springs are completely self-contained hydropneumatic cylinders actuated by a pull-switch cable, foot pedal, or bedside paddle. They require no batteries or external wiring, ensuring stretcher backrests, emergency carts, and side rails function reliably during ambulance transfers or hospital power interruptions.

What surface finishes match clean clinical housings and diagnostic enclosures?

In addition to standard Black and Chrome across all series, our NTA, NTC, NTF, and NTZ cylinders are available in White, Light Gray, and Silver Gray. These smooth finishes integrate seamlessly with powder-coated hospital bed frames, white imaging enclosures, and point-of-care medical carts.
