Match the Series to Your Furniture Mechanism

Start with how the furniture piece is used: does it simply lift open to a fixed stop, or lock anywhere along the stroke under user weight?

Inside the Cylinder

Whisper-Quiet Motion and Zero Mechanical Play

In residential and office interiors, how a mechanism sounds and feels matters just as much as the weight it carries. Pressurized nitrogen gas supplies a flat, predictable lifting curve, while internal oil and valve geometry govern the stop. In NTZ cabinet struts, oil meter channels decelerate the door before full extension. In NTA and NTB springs, closing the release valve traps hydraulic oil to hold backrests and tabletops firm.

Compact Cylinders, Long Travel: Because furniture frames leave very little room for hardware, our cylinders maximize stroke length inside bodies ranging from 2.4 to 25.6 in (60 to 650 mm), giving designers full adjustment range without bulky housings.

Make It Yours

Built to Blend Into Visible Interiors

Hardware inside a living room or open-plan office should not look like raw factory machinery. We tailor rod diameters from 0.16 to 0.47 in (4 to 12 mm), outer tubes from 12 to 28 mm, and every mounting detail to your blueprint.

Newton furniture gas springs in black, chrome, silver gray, white and light gray finishes

Interior-Ready Finishes

Black and Chrome on every series, plus Silver Gray, White, and Light Gray on NTA, NTF, and NTZ.

Metal and plastic single-ear and double-ear end fittings for furniture and cabinet gas struts

Concealed End Fittings

Single-ear eyelets and double-ear clevis forks in metal or plastic for cabinet brackets and bed hinges.

Pull-switch cable release actuator connected to an under-desk paddle or recliner lever

Cable and Lever Release

Pull-switch cable actuators let an under-desk paddle, sofa handle, or chair lever unlock springs out of sight.

How We Work

From Furniture Prototype to Volume Production

Three straightforward steps from your cabinet or seating drawing to force-tested OEM production batches.

  1. Send Your Geometry

Share a CAD file or sketch with door or tabletop weight, hinge pivot coordinates, and desired opening angle or stroke.

  2. Evaluate Custom Samples

We build prototype struts to your exact Newton force, finish color, and end-fitting spec for real-world feel testing.

  3. Scale With Confidence

Every production run is force-checked so the thousandth recliner or cabinet door opens with the exact same effort as the first.

Industry Solutions

Beyond residential and commercial furniture, we custom-manufacture gas struts and locking springs for five additional OEM sectors.

FAQs

Questions Furniture Designers Ask

Still unsure? Email info@newtonmatic.com

NTG, NTA or NTB: which locking spring suits my furniture design?

Choose NTG when you want a gentle, cushioned bounce in office chair seats and backrests. Choose NTA when the load pulls outward on the rod, such as recliner sofa backs and leg rests. Choose NTB when weight presses downward on adjustable desks and tilting drafting tables.

How do I size a cabinet gas spring for an overhead door or bed frame?

Share the door or mattress platform weight, the distance from the hinge to the center of gravity, and your desired opening angle. Our engineers calculate the exact Newton rating (15 to 2,000 N) and bracket positions so the lid lifts effortlessly and stays open without slamming.

Should I use NTF or NTZ for flip-up kitchen and office cabinet lids?

Both series provide steady lifting support from 3.4 to 450 lbf (15 to 2,000 N), but NTZ adds internal hydraulic oil damping that slows the rod at the end of its extension. Specify NTZ on overhead cabinets where you want a quiet, soft-stop finish that protects cabinet hinges.

Can we match the gas strut color to exposed cabinetry or desk frames?

Yes. While Black and Chrome are standard across every series, our NTA, NTF, and NTZ series are also finished in Silver Gray, White, and Light Gray so exposed struts blend cleanly into white kitchen cabinets, light-wood storage furniture, and powder-coated desk legs.
